Discover Saskatchewan, the Canadian province of the prairies

April is Saskatchewan Month in Mexico! We invite you to discover this unique Canadian province and the opportunities it offers.

Saskatchewan is big, very big

The province of Saskatchewan covers approximately 650,000 km², roughly equivalent to one-third the size of Mexico. It contains 40% of Canada's arable land and boasts an estimated 100,000 lakes and rivers. Located in central Canada, it borders the United States, specifically Montana and North Dakota.

We have an export-based economy and Mexico is a key partner

We export nearly 70% of what we produce to the world, and many of those products can be found in Mexico. In 2022, for the first time in Saskatchewan's history, we exported over one billion dollars' worth of goods to Mexico. Of those exports, 97% were related to agricultural and food products. Canola oil, canola seed, and non-durum wheat were our top three exports. That means it's very likely that some of your favorite foods are made with ingredients produced in Saskatchewan.

We are world leaders in many sectors

Saskatchewan is known for its world-class natural resources and industries. We have the largest deposits of uranium and potash of the highest quality in the world. Our pulse production, known for its lentils, peas, beans, and chickpeas, is also the largest in the world, and our state-of-the-art research facilities have developed hundreds of new crop varieties. We are also home to the largest carbon capture, utilization, and storage project on the planet, and we are one of the only places that produces crude oil, natural gas, uranium, biofuels, geothermal, wind, solar, and hydroelectric power. What's more, we are proud to do it all sustainably. Learn more about our journey toward sustainability at sustainablesk.ca.

Saskatchewan has an office in the heart of Mexico

In 2022, Saskatchewan opened its first trade and investment office in Mexico. Headquartered in Mexico City, it is led by Horacio Cuevas and a dedicated team focused on strengthening the relationship between our regions.
